History of Sunlight Federal Credit Union and Current Field of Membership

The original Charter for Sunlight was under the Husky Oil Company in 1953 which served their employees working in Wyoming, Utah, Texas, Montana, and Idaho, their immediate families, and organizations of such persons.

The name was changed to Big Horn Basin Federal Credit Union on July 16, 1984. At this time, the credit union began applying to include Small Employer Groups to add to the membership.

On July 2, 1985, the name changed to Sunlight Federal Credit Union.

In April 1998 Sunlight was approved to convert to a community charter serving the counties of Big Horn, Hot Springs, Park, and Washakie County in Wyoming including persons who work, live, worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities.

Due to an emergency merger with Big Horn Federal Credit Union out of Sheridan Wyoming on March 31, 2002, Sunlight absorbed its field of membership, which added the counties of Sheridan and Johnson in Wyoming to Sunlight’s field of membership.

On December 15, 2020, NCUA approved Sunlight’s current field of membership:

Persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in the rural district of Albany, Big Horn, Campbell, Carbon, Converse, Crook, Fremont, Goshen, Hot Springs, Johnson, Laramie, Lincoln, Natrona, Niobrara, Park, Platte, Sheridan, Sublette, Sweetwater, Teton, Uinta, Washakie, or Weston Counties, Wyoming; or Carbon, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Park, Gallatin, Broadwater, Powder River, Custer, Rosebud, Treasure, Big Horn, or Yellowstone Counties, Montana; or Grand, Rio Blanco, Jackson, Routt, or Moffat Counties, Colorado; Spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership of this credit union; employees of this credit union; persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the above employment; members of their immediate families or households; and organizations of such persons."
